JMU −7.5
Balanced offensive and defensive advantages on the CFBD opponent comparison. Reported receiver and defensive-line absences remain the material risk.
Our SP+ pull: James Madison 9.9 vs Georgia Southern −8.6 → JMU by 18.5 neutral, 15.8 with home field. The report’s “SP+ by 15” is corroborated. Against a 7.5 line that is roughly an 8-point model edge.
Toledo −18.5
CapperInsights shows −19.5, which sits beyond our gate. Pass at −19 or worse. Confirm the captured price before anything moves.
Our SP+ pull: Toledo 0.3 vs Buffalo −17.2 → Toledo by 17.5 neutral, 20.2 with home field. Note the tension: the model would still clear −19.5, so this gate is market discipline, not a model call. The model says the number is fine; the process says do not lay past 18.5.
Western Michigan −13.5
Review at −13.5 and −115 or better. Confirm the captured price before treating it as live.
Our SP+ pull: Western Michigan −7.2 vs Kent State −22.4 → WMU by 15.2 neutral, 17.9 with home field. Clears the 13.5 by about 4.4 points — a real edge, but the lowest computer agreement of the three and the reason it carries the lowest evidence score.
White Sox / Guardians Over 7.5
BallparkPal’s fair price implies 60.9%. Lineups, bullpen assumptions and a second total forecast all remain unverified, which is why it carries no evidence score.
Single-source. A 60.9% fair price is not a release when the only input is one total model and the lineups are unpublished.
THE DECISIONS THAT MATTER
| Position | Decision |
|---|
| JMU | Balanced offensive and defensive advantages. Reported receiver and defensive-line absences remain important. |
| Toledo | CapperInsights shows −19.5, beyond our gate. Pass at −19 or worse. |
| Western Michigan | Review −13.5 at −115 or better. Confirm the captured price. |
| MLB over | BallparkPal’s fair price implies 60.9%, but lineups, bullpen assumptions and a second total forecast remain unverified. |
BY WINDOW
| Window | What sits there |
|---|
| Early | Nebraska +8.5 — watch only. Indiana @ Nebraska, 11:00 AM. Our SP+ has Indiana by 7.3, so Nebraska +8.5 covers by 1.2 points. That is inside the noise band; it is a watch, not a side. |
| Afternoon | Western Michigan and Toledo — both price watches at 2:30 PM. Neither is live until the captured price is confirmed. |
| Evening | JMU and the MLB over. Memphis requires −14 or better; our SP+ has Memphis by 19.3 over UAB, so the gate is comfortable. |
| Late | Fresno +7 — see the integrity flag below. There is no Fresno State game on this Saturday’s card. |
| NFL | No Saturday NFL games. The board is college and one MLB total. |
SLATE INTEGRITY — WHAT THIS RUN CAUGHT
Fresno +7 does not exist on this card. Fresno State has no game on Saturday, October 10. Its next game is at San Diego State on October 17. A late-window watch on a team that is not playing cannot be evaluated.
The previous evening board carried three games that are not on this slate. Utah −15.5, Minnesota −2.5 and Boise State/Fresno State were all computed from next week’s card — Utah is at Colorado on October 17 and Fresno State is at San Diego State on October 17. They should not have appeared on a Saturday board.
The cause is a week mismatch, not a bad model. October 10 falls in CFBD week 6; the earlier pass pulled week 7, which begins October 13. Everything below has been recomputed against the week-6 export.
What survives from that board: Memphis, JMU, San Diego State, Virginia, Georgia–Alabama, LSU–Kentucky, Nevada–UTEP, NDSU–UNLV, Louisiana–Louisiana Tech and USC–Penn State are all genuine October 10 games.
DROPPED SINCE THE MORNING CARD
Pitt −3.5 was 7/10 this morning and is off the board. Our SP+ still has Pitt by 14.4 with home field against a 3.5 line, so the model case did not weaken — the position simply did not survive into this run.
Vanderbilt +9.5 was also 7/10 and is also off the board. This is the one worth pausing on: our SP+ has Ole Miss by just 0.9 with home field against a 9.5 line, an 8.6-point model-to-market gap and the single largest divergence on the slate. It was the biggest edge this morning and it is absent now.
Texas −7.5 has left the secondary list. Our SP+ has Texas by 9.6 at the neutral site against a 7.5 line — a real but modest 2-point edge.
Count drift on JMU: the morning card showed 39/41, this run shows 38/40. Different system counts, same direction. Neither is a cover probability.
STILL UNRESOLVED

RED RIVER · SAT OCT 10 · REFINED READ
Texas at Oklahoma
SAT 2:30 PM CT · ABC · Cotton Bowl, Dallas · Treat as neutral despite Oklahoma’s "home" designation.
WATCH — refined research read, release still INCOMPLETE
The deeper work keeps Texas as the preferred side but makes Texas −7.5 a cautious lean, not a top-confidence play. Oklahoma’s defense is substantially better than the Georgia score suggests. The strongest Texas case is pressure forcing Oklahoma into costly mistakes, not Texas consistently marching downfield — that distinction matters for the spread and both unders.
WHAT THE COMPUTERS ACTUALLY SAY · PREDICTIONTRACKER
| Check | Result |
|---|
| Texas to win outright | 40/41 forecasts |
| Texas to cover −7 | 32/41 |
| Texas to cover −7.5 | 30/41 |
| Texas to cover −8.5 | 28 agree, 12 oppose, 1 push |
| Texas to cover −9.5 | 24/41 |
| Recalculated mean margin | 10.71 (site summary 10.63) |
| Mean with the extreme Oklahoma forecast removed | 11.41 |
| Forecast standard deviation | 7.17 points |
PredictionTracker still has 40/41 forecasts picking Texas outright and 30/41 supporting Texas −7.5. Recalculating the displayed entries gives a mean margin of 10.71, slightly different from the site’s earlier 10.63 summary. Removing the extreme Oklahoma forecast raises the mean to 11.41, but dispersion remains substantial, so all 41 are retained in the headline count. These are populated forecasts, not independent models, and 30/41 agreement does not mean a 73% chance of covering.

CFBD game-level efficiency and exported box scores, Weeks 1–5. Each comparison excludes the game against Texas or Oklahoma from the opponent’s baseline, excludes FCS opponents, and calculates baseline yards per play from total yards ÷ total plays. These are descriptive comparisons, not fitted power ratings; the baseline samples contain only three or four other FBS games.
WHAT THIS CHANGES
Texas defense holdsTexas’s defense holds up against opponent quality. The Tennessee and UTSA suppression is particularly strong; Ohio State also produced much less efficiently against Texas.
Texas offenseNot consistently outperforming expectations — it was below the opponent’s other-game allowance against UTSA and Tennessee.
Oklahoma defense holdsMichigan, New Mexico and Georgia all produced below their other-game offensive efficiency.
Not simply "cannot move the ball""Oklahoma cannot move the ball" is too simplistic. Its yardage efficiency against Michigan and New Mexico exceeded what those defenses allowed elsewhere. Turning possessions into points — and protecting the ball — is the larger concern.
GARBAGE-TIME-EXCLUDED COMPETITIVE-PLAY COMPARISON
| Competitive-play comparison | Texas | Oklahoma |
|---|
| Offensive success rate | 44.9% | 37.6% |
| Opponents’ other-game defensive baseline* | 39.0% | 35.1% |
| Defensive success rate allowed | 34.4% | 30.7% |
| Opponents’ other-game offensive baseline* | 50.0% | 47.2% |
| Offensive / defensive plays sampled | 263 / 224 | 213 / 192 |
*Baselines weighted to the evaluated team’s game-play distribution. These competitive-play measures use a different sample from the full-game box-score table. Both defenses suppress success substantially. Texas has the better offensive level, but OU’s poor scoring cannot be attributed solely to facing weak opponents or never generating yardage.
THE GEORGIA LOSS IS THE KEY CORRECTION
Georgia’s official notes credit 17 points off four Oklahoma turnovers, including an 85-yard defensive touchdown and another touchdown after a recovery at the OU 11. That helps explain how Georgia scored 41 despite relatively modest offensive production.
Small source discrepancy retained: CFBD’s box score lists 306 Georgia yards; Georgia’s official notes list 308. It does not change the conclusion, but the sources are not presented as identical.
41 points is not proof Oklahoma’s defense collapsed. The turnovers are a credible route to a Texas cover, and neither should be assumed to repeat at exactly the same rate.
THE PRESSURE MATCHUP — CUTS BOTH WAYS
| Matchup | Protection ranking | Opposing pressure-generation ranking |
|---|
| Texas offense vs OU defense | Texas 34th | Oklahoma 14th |
| OU offense vs Texas defense | Oklahoma 46th | Texas 1st |
Reported SIS figures (Sharp Football Analysis), opponent-adjusted: Manning takes sacks on 24% of pressured dropbacks and Mateer takes a sack or throws an interception on 26%. The article’s actual pick is Oklahoma +7.5 — a meaningful contrary assessment. These are reported figures; the underlying proprietary data was not independently reproduced.
SI’s film analysis reports Manning was pressured on 46.7% of dropbacks against Tennessee and recommends quicker decisions and pressure-relief options — a proposed adjustment, not confirmation Texas has fixed the problem.
Personnel refinement: Fasusi has already missed substantial time, so a full new injury downgrade should not be applied to OU on top of statistics that largely reflect his absence. His final status and the replacement lineup still matter.
LOCAL REPORTING, SPECIAL TEAMS AND AVAILABILITY
SP+ defenseThe CFBD SP+ values — Texas 22.4, Oklahoma 12.8 — show identical 13.6 defensive ratings. The larger distinction is offense.
Local reportingThe Statesman confirms Hollywood Smothers’ return; Sarkisian emphasized his pass protection and receiving as well as running. That supports Texas’s offense and weakens an automatic under based on the Tennessee performance.
Special teamsTexas allowed a punt-return touchdown at Tennessee, kicked out of bounds and mishandled an onside recovery chance. Oklahoma could score without sustaining long drives — hurting both a Texas cover and an OU team-total under.
Dave Campbell’sExpects a defensive battle, but its power poll is qualitative context rather than an independent betting projection.
Thursday availabilityOU left tackle Michael Fasusi doubtful, Fred Hinton out; Texas TE Nick Townsend available, Justus Terry questionable, and Lockett, Jordan Coleman and Zion Williams out. Thursday statuses, not final game-day clearance.
FORUM SCAN
LonghornNationThe prediction thread repeatedly raises Texas’s protection problems, slow-developing passes and the need for quicker throws. Smothers’ return is the common counterargument.
r/CFBBoth Texas blowout expectations and concerns about inconsistent offense and rivalry variance. Posted injuries and odds were stale and were excluded from the current personnel and market assessment.
NetUseful matchup questions, but no verified forum-exclusive injury information that changes the pick.
LATEST MARKET PULL
| Provider | Spread | Total | Texas ML |
|---|
| DraftKings | Texas −7.5 | 39.5 | −325 |
| Bovada | Texas −7.5 | 39 | −320 |
Provider-feed observations without an exposed update timestamp or spread juice — not verified executable sportsbook quotes. FanDuel’s published snapshot earlier listed Texas −7.5 −110 and total 38.5, under −105.
WHERE THIS READ DIFFERS FROM THE PASTED AI READS
The opening-line stories use different timeframes and books. VegasInsider places 48.5 in the summer market; Hard Rock’s game-week total opened 41.5 and reached 38.5, Circa opened 40. Calling this a nine-point collapse this week is misleading.
Claude’s dispersion claim is too strong — comparing a few selected estimates misses PredictionTracker’s 7.17-point standard deviation.
SP+ is a bear case against both unders: its 27–17 forecast exceeds the full-game total and an OU team total of 15.5.
A 74% winner-market probability cannot become a 7.2-point margin without a stated conversion model.
Historical under trends support a hypothesis; they do not establish value after the total has already fallen.
REFINED BETTING READ
| Market | Decision | Reason |
|---|
| Texas −7 or better | Preferred conditional entry | Better offensive level and stronger pressure matchup; key-number protection |
| Texas −7.5 | Cautious lean | Computer support, but OU’s defense and Texas protection problems limit conviction |
| Full-game under 38.5–39.5 | Pass | Defensive evidence is strong, but turnover and special-teams scoring can still defeat this low total |
| OU team-total under 15.5 | Watch | Plausible matchup, but needs exact price and a verified possession/scoring forecast |
| Texas ML −320/−325 | Pass | Requires roughly 76% wins to break even; the cited SP+ forecast is 73% |
ILLUSTRATIVE OUTCOMES — NOT SCORED PREDICTIONS
| Illustrative score | Texas −7.5 | Under 39.5 |
|---|
| Texas 20–13 | Loses | Wins |
| Texas 27–13 | Wins | Loses |
| Texas 24–17 | Loses | Loses |
Illustrative outcomes only — not scored predictions — showing why the markets must stay separate. Pursue Texas −7, keep −7.5 small in conviction, and avoid pairing it automatically with the under. This research improves the matchup read considerably, but a formal v7.6R release remains INCOMPLETE pending final personnel, verified executable prices and the possession/scoring forecast.
RUN STATUS
What this run did not do
Completed this run: the full 46-game FBS census with DraftKings lines, authenticated CFBD SP+ ratings for 45 of 46 games, an SP+-versus-market divergence ranking, and targeted beat-reporter injury scans on the marquee games.
Completed since the census pass: the full PredictionTracker board (average, median, standard deviation, home-win and home-cover probability) and the TeamRankings predictive power rating. Still outstanding: FEI/Howell/DRatings/Dunkel, the Capper Insights card, the X-list scans (X blocks automated reads) and the SP+ workbook PDF. SP+ remains a single model family — the tracker is a correlated forecast set, not independent models, so the independent-confirmation gate is still open.
Not on this board: the NFL (no Saturday games; Week 6 runs Oct 14–20) and the rest of the MLB bracket (NLCS starts Sunday). Arizona State’s SP+ rating was not published, so Hawaii–ASU has no model row.
Missing for any release: a second independent model family, live two-book price verification, the capper card, and a resolved personnel/weather packet on the evening games.
